Hardware Requirements: Diagnostic Monitors

A radiologist cannot read a diagnostic scan on a standard consumer-grade laptop screen. Teleradiology workstations require specialized Medical-Grade Monitors.

These monitors are calibrated for high luminance and specific contrast ratios (grayscale) as defined by the DICOM Part 14 standard. For example, a mammography reading station typically requires 5-megapixel (5MP) monitors to visualize microscopic calcifications. These displays also undergo regular "QA" (Quality Assurance) testing to ensure they maintain consistent brightness and clarity over time, as any degradation in screen quality could lead to a missed diagnosis.
